2005 – Alfa GT – TYPE 937
Today I was standing up at 4:00 am to drive around 520 km to Bavaria to review and purchase a 2005 Alfa Romeo GT 1.9 JTD for a cheap price…
issue 1 – the owner a young Student – HE said that there is a “small rust issue” with the right Sill and just some smaller color issues on the left Sill…
issue 2 – replacement Engine. it got replaced 4 years ago by the previous owner…
so… waking up early and preparing for a longer drive sounds good but my Navi was deleting the card material and i have to re-install it. I finally started to drive the “short-distance” at 5:20 am…
Around 11:30 i saw the Alps… awesome! I knew I was driving close to the Austrian border and would see them but the first look was quite impressive…
I was driving the last 20 km and they were quite bigger! I just forgot to take more pictures…
Arriving in Peißenberg – I was directly seeing the car. The first small look told me that it looks really nice… i was walking to the door and the young guy opened the door already with a “hi”.
he started to show me “HIS CAR” and his father stepped out of the door as well… the boy started to show me the car and we talked about some topics.. I directly saw that the sills have more than a rust issue. The father said that this is caused by the fact that the Sills got re-painted in the winter period 2 years ago and it was cold. I told him – if this is the case – then I wouldn’t work with this painter anymore but I was also guessing that the painter was using the wrong primer who caused that the final Paint is peeling off. looking under the left side also displays that there is a bigger issue with the sill and I do need some more work to fix it…
The front of the car has a dent, the rear right side has some minor surface scratches and you can see the primer. the right door has a dent and the same in the rear seat area on the right side… but nevertheless, the Young student was still presenting the car to me and was doing whatever I asked him. he started the engine which took 2 sec for ignition but this might be due to the cold winter. The car itself is not driven for a month and the German TÜV is over and we can’t really test it further.
so far so good, as the engine is replaced and the Kilometer is unknown – I already told him via Facebook that this is the biggest risk and I can not and will not pay a lot. due to the fact that we have already defined a price via Facebook and I was expecting that the sills are already done, i was not trying to negotiating again. The price of 500€ was fair and if in the worst case the car is not surviving then I would be able to sell it in parts or as one piece and have plus/minus zero…
IF we would deal about a higher price and a working car I would for sure negotiate but not this time…
We signed the contract with all details and I paid the 500 bucks to the boy.
BTW… I do like how the father was reacting the whole time. He let the boy doing it, discussing, explaining, presenting and he was more in the background – the boy needs experience, and being in the background was a good decision.
Right now I am sitting here at home, searching for a company who could transport the car to me. The cheapest one would like t get 328€ so far. I made a counteroffer of 300€ let’s see what will be the final price…
I am continuing when the car gets delivered…
