2020 – March 12
It is known the sills need a lot of work. It may happen that the Inner sills are impacted as well.
Yesterday, I have received some Sills for an Alfa 147 and no – they are not matching. There is a fold on it who does not exist on my car. It means i have to return it. Today morning the same Guy from GLS picked them up.
i joined yesterday an Forum called https://www.alfa-gt.de/ where are a lot of Fans from this model available. So far i have asked a lot of questions about possible Sills and got the info that they do not exist as new build. Only possibility would be to purcase the whole side of the car for more than 2 grand and that does not seems to be a reasonable block in my budget. So i decided to make the outer sills by myself… it is nothing special as it need a 90 degree angle on one side and a bend of a 90 degree circle on the other side. The only difficulty would be that i need to catch the correct radius for it. I ordered today metal sheets with a length of 150 cm and a width of 50 cm. Tomorrow i will build a small master template to see if it is working. i also ordered some tools who support me with the check but this is an additional story.
As mentioned above – i am part in a Forum now with my typical name “Bensiskodefiant”. yeah! sure – Star trek- I use this name since the late 1990ies.. 😉
Within the Forum i got a summary today of the most known topics. Before you read it below – please be aware that we’re talking about a car who is above 10 years old. Please also be aware that it seems that a body cavity preservation was an extra and i read on other sites that the dealer mentioned “no you do not need it”. I do guess a lot of Purchaser have a different meaning now. Please also understand that the list sounds incredible long but something like this exist on BMW , Audi, Skoda, Volvo, Chrysler and all the other Brands for each car as well. At the end it is just a summary and does not mean that this is happen…
THE LIST
1. MAIN GIRDER – FRONT
after removal of the front bumpers it is easy to access
2. TRANSITION AREA BETWEEN A-PILAR and SILL
cleaning, removal Rust, expanding drain holes, thinking about adding an extra metal frame (Aloy) to avoid that the mud gets into this area in general
3. SILLS
nothing to add at all. wrong lifting is the main problem
4. CORROSION FLOOR GROUP
it is rusting from the inside to the outside. Cavity areas needs to be checked
5. CAR BODY HECK – RUST
6. BONNET
possible that sweating water causes rust
7.ANTI SHOCK ABSORBTION
Mud – Wet can cause rust.. general topic of all cars worldwide – well might not be an issue in an desert. 😉
8. SPRING COLLAR/ SUSPENSION
same issue like for point number 7 – if broken it can affect the tires as it would be in general contact with them. Does not sounds good if you drive the car…
9. BRAKE HOSE
the protection cover may break and the steel brake hose may gets rust.
10. RECUPERATOR
It may happen that the contacts are rusty
11. ALL SCREWS
They are added dry. If you remove it , they may brake due to corrosion – replaceing sounds good but need to be protected and rust-remover is mandatory to avoid that they brake
12. CABLES DOWNER HECKLIGHT
Water is almost every day in touch with it. I need to think about protection cover. – 3D-Printing?
The list sounds incredible long but as mentioned that is a list of known topics. IF you are in a different Forum for a different Car brand you also get aware about all possibilities. No one outside of the communities are really aware about it or the retailer just do not want to let you know. Any known Problem is always a sales killer… 😉
I do realise that i never presented any Picture of the Car. Here you go.
